When my group and I were tasked with designing an electro-mechanical prototype that would help the successul ageing process we started by learning about the lives of people who suffer from dementia and identified malnutrition as a real problem. Our solution was a system that monitors the stock levels of a kitchen and alerts a carer that food supplies are running low.

I then designed the prototype to demonstrate the functionality of the system by using an Arduino microcontroller to read the mass from a digital weighing scale and to wirelessly control LEDs on a fridge-mounted display to indicate the level of milk in a carton.
